Welcome to the Black. Draft. Events Page—your go-to space for discovering meaningful, in-real-life connections with fellow book lovers across the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia).

In a world that often keeps us online, we’re intentionally bringing readers off the timeline and into community. Whether you're based in Northern Virginia, commuting from Maryland, or crossing over from DC, our events are designed to create warm, welcoming spaces where stories extend beyond the page and into real conversations while supporting local businesses.

From curated in-person book club meetings for Black women, femme, and non-binary readers and indie author spotlights to cozy reading hangs and seasonal gatherings, each event is an opportunity to connect, reflect, and build community with people who love books just as much as you do.

If you’ve been craving deeper connection, new friendships, and thoughtful dialogue rooted in a shared love of reading, you’re in the right place.

Come as you are. Leave with new perspectives, new people, and probably a longer TBR.

Whether you're visiting DC for the weekend or you’re a local looking to connect, this is the perfect way to unwind, meet new people, and keep the literary energy going in a more relaxed setting.

What to expect:

  • Classic and party games (think Uno, spades, and group favorites)

  • A welcoming, social atmosphere for solo attendees and groups

  • A chance to meet fellow readers, writers, and festival-goers

  • Great drinks and cozy vibes at one of NOVA’s favorite neighborhood spots

Come as you are, bring a friend or make one there, and pull up for a night that feels like community.
